New Graduate Certificate Announcement

Effective Fall 2012, a new Arts Management Graduate Certificate program will be offered.  Candidates choose from four concentrations. To apply please visit http://admissions.gmu.edu/

Students who have enrolled in a certificate program prior to the Fall of 2012 are subject to the standards and requirements as set forth in the catalog year of their certificate enrollment.

Application deadlines: March 1 (Fall) and October 15 (Spring); International students apply by February 15 (Fall) and September 15 (Spring).

Graduate Certificate in Arts Management is afforded to those who successfully complete the prescribed fifteen (15) credits of study as indicated for the concentrations listed. The Certificate is intended for those who know the specific expertise they desire to acquire to either enter into or advance arts management or related careers.

The Marketing & Public Relations in the Arts concentration affords the certificate recipient the academic preparation for careers in a variety of positions and roles within an arts, other not-for-profit or commercial arts related organization. These positions include:

  • Arts consultants
  • Arts marketing strategists
  • Community liaisons
  • Marketing and advertising personnel in arts organizations
  • Marketing information researchers
  • Media relations
  • Public relations personnel

The Entrepreneurship concentration affords the certificate recipient the academic preparation for careers in a variety of positions and roles within an arts, other not-for-profit or commercial arts related organization. These positions include:

  • Arts consultants
  • Entrepreneurs in visual technology
  • Special events coordinators
  • Website designers

The Programming & Project Management in the Arts concentration affords the certificate recipient the academic preparation for careers in a variety of positions and roles within an arts, other not-for-profit or commercial arts related organization. These positions include:

  • Art show coordinators
  • Arts consultants
  • Special events coordinators
  • Website designers
  • Managers of community and regional theaters
  • Managers of regional dance venues
  • Managers of regional symphonies
  • Network managers
  • Production management personnel
  • Program directors
  • Special events coordinators
  • Technical directors for theater, opera, and other performing arts organizations
  • Technology or information officers of established arts organizations

The Fundraising & Development in the Arts concentration affords the certificate recipient the academic preparation for careers in a variety of positions and roles within an arts, other not-for-profit or Arts consultants commercial arts related organization. These positions include:

  • Arts consultants
  • Development personnel in arts and arts-related organizations
  • Fund-raising and philanthropy directors
  • Program directors
  •  Volunteer coordinators

Admission Requirements

  • GPA 3.0
  • Official undergraduate transcripts listing a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty members or individuals who have first-hand knowledge of the applicant’s academic or professional capabilities
  • A two-page (maximum) statement of intent and goals

Applicants might be asked to interview with at least one member of the program faculty or Admissions Committee. In addition, applicants may submit a portfolio that demonstrates work experience.

Tuition Rates Spring 2012

College of Visual & Performing Arts:
All Graduate Programs $461.00 per credit hour (in state);  $1,100.25 per credit hour (out of state).
