What is your hometown?

Until college, I spent my whole life in Chesapeake, VA. I moved up here to Fairfax during my senior year of my undergraduate program.

Why did you choose Mason's Arts Management program for your graduate studies?

I chose Mason’s AMGT MA program because I love what I do in Green Machine. This program allows me to continue performing with the ensembles I know and love while stepping into the management side of the performing arts.

What has been your favorite class or project so far in the Arts Management Program?

Even though I’m only in my first semester, I am having a blast creating a non-profit organization for Seminar with Dr. Karalee. My fantastic partner, Sirena Dib, and I have come up with a non-profit named ARTBITE that links the culinary, performing, and visual arts together!

What is your favorite arts activity?

One of my favorite arts activities is attending artist talks and lectures. I find immense value in hearing directly from artists about their creative processes, inspirations, and the stories behind their work. These events offer a unique opportunity to gain insights into the artistic journey and deepen my understanding of different artistic perspectives and movements.

How has your experience as an artist impacted your management (or visa versa)?

As a performer with GMU's College of Visual and Performing Arts and as a member of the Green Machine, I've gained firsthand insight into the creative processes and challenges inherent in the performing arts. This understanding allows me to empathize with artists and effectively communicate their needs and aspirations within a management framework.

What was it like to play at pivotal moments, such as the A10 conference or White House?

Playing at pivotal moments such as the A10 conference and the White House Easter Egg Roll is an exhilarating experience that encapsulates the essence of our dedication as performers. The energy pulsating through the stadiums during the A10 conferences, whether in Henrico, VA or Brooklyn, NY, was electric. The opportunity to perform at such high-profile events definitely serves as a testament to the impact of music in creating unforgettable moments. I know we are all honored to be part of such a cherished tradition.

What is piece of advice you would share with future arts managers?

The arts world is dynamic and ever-changing, and sometimes the best way to learn and grow is through hands-on experience. Take initiative, embrace challenges, and be willing to step outside your comfort zone (especially if you’re an active performer!).

Do you have any exciting projects on the horizon you can share?

The Green Machine is founding a new band; Parade Band! Our debut will be at the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA on Star Wars Day (May the 4th, 2024). We are very excited to be putting the energy of our Pep Band on the move!
