The Folger Shakespeare Library, Development Intern (Summer)

The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., is seeking an intern to work with our Development Team this summer. This paid internship will provide hands on experience in the world of non-profit fundraising and arts management. The intern will work closely with our development team to identify and research potential supporters, assist in writing foundation proposals and reports, add and update data in the Folger’s constituent database, and perform administrative tasks such as filing and preparing mailings.  The intern will participate in bi-weekly development team meetings, create reports and other communications, and strategize with the development team on donor engagement opportunities and events.

Candidates must be currently enrolled students or recent graduates, preferably of an applicable graduate level program, plan on pursuing a career in a related field, be able to commit to a regular 20-hour/week schedule during normal business hours, and be able to maintain confidentiality. Our ideal candidates will have: excellent research skills; a strong attention to detail; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of individuals and businesses; and a strong sense of initiative and curiosity. Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate knowledge of our organization and comfort with a professional fundraising environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Experience with donor databases such as Tessitura or Raiser’s Edge is highly desirable.
