Anika Kwinana, '18

The Arts Management Program at George Mason University is excited to appoint Anika Kwinana (’18) as Alumni Liaison! Anika is an artist and arts manager who is passionate about the role of the arts in supporting community development. Her work has included directing music and arts programming for a diverse, 5,000-member religious organization in South Africa, where she mentored and led 100+ volunteer artists; produced, wrote for and performed on two live CD-DVD projects; and, oversaw concerts, conferences and facility rentals.

I am super excited to be stepping into the role of Alumni Liaison for our Arts Management program. But I am only one. My goal is to put together a working group of alumni representing diverse experiences and backgrounds, who reflect the program across its years of existence....

She also managed, facilitated and fundraised for several community-based youth, HIV-AIDS, and women’s empowerment organizations in the country.  In the U.S, Anika has designed and implemented STEM and arts-related college and career fairs, with an emphasis on concept development; event management; committee oversight; program design and implementation; and, partnership-building.  She is currently Manager, National Community Partnerships at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, where she supports 100+ communities, nationally, towards equitable access to quality arts education for all public school students.  Anika is a Commissioner for the Arlington County Commission for the Arts and an executive board member for the Arts Administrators of Color Network.  Anika holds an MA in Arts Management from George Mason University and an M.A. Public Anthropology from American University.

This volunteer role will help to shape alumni relations and engagement with the more than 500 AMGT alumni around the world. To better help the program establish deep and meaningful connections with alumni, Anika with AMGT Staff will work to establish an Alumni Working group of 5-7 volunteers. Anika had this to say “I am super excited to be stepping into the role of Alumni Liaison for our Arts Management program. But I am only one. My goal is to put together a working group of alumni representing diverse experiences and backgrounds, who reflect the program across its years of existence. All of us have first hand knowledge of the successes and challenges that occur after obtaining the degree. Who better than us to support other alumni on their journeys? We also aim to building a strong alumni network to engage and strengthen the program as it seeks to be continuously relevant to the field.”
