The Sewanee Summer Music Festival seeks a manager for the Sewanee Symphony Reporting to the Artistic Operations Manager, the Sewanee Symphony manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the ensemble over the course of the summer season. The following summer job announcement from the Swanee Music Festival could also be considered a paid summer internship opportunity for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Attend, manage, and report on all rehearsals, readings, and concerts for the Sewanee Symphony.
  • Compile and distribute weekly rosters and rehearsal schedules to orchestra personnel.
  • Manage all orchestra personnel issues as they arise.
  • Assist with placement auditions and special projects as assigned.
  • Work closely and effectively with guest artists, faculty members, students, and staff.
  • Other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of ensemble management experience and a background in classical music required.
  • A high level of organizational ability, attention to detail, and communication and writing skills, as well as an ability to multitask and work effectively with a variety of constituents.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines, while demonstrating patience, good judgment, and a

positive attitude.

  • Knowledge of computers (primarily Google products) and information technology. Training will be provided as necessary.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are strongly recommended.

Compensation

Hourly wages, housing, and meals. The SSO manager will be hired as a temporary employee of the Sewanee: University of the South - host institution for the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. A background check is required for successful employment
