Signature Theatre is looking for experienced, sensitive and innovative teaching artists for satellite Signature in the Schools workshops in Northern Virginia schools. Teaching artists will use theatrical skills to prepare high school students from a wide variety of classroom settings attending field trip performances of the 2017-18 Signature in the Schools production, which uses Homer’s Odyssey, stories from the current refugee crisis and stories of immigration to explore concepts and definitions of “home.”
Teaching artists will collaborate with Signature’s Education Department to develop curriculum. Satellite teaching will take place from late January through the end of February.
Applicants should have experience teaching theater and should feel confident in their abilities to teach other subjects (particularly history and sociology) through theatrical skills. All teaching artists will receive training on subject matter and lesson materials before teaching any workshops.
Signature Theatre offers a competitive hourly rate in addition to complimentary and discounted ticket offers.
Interested applicants should send a resume, cover letter, and sample hour-length lesson plan to firstname.lastname@example.org. Signature Theatre is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
