Constellations Chamber Concerts Seeks Assistant Director

Constellations Chamber Concerts, based in the Washington, DC area, is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, forward-thinking, and experienced individual to serve as our Assistant Director. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to provide quality service and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment.

JOB TITLE: Assistant Director
HOURS: Hourly part-time position with primarily flexible hours and some fixed hours. Typical time commitment will be approximately 15-20 hours per week, and infrequently as much as 40 hours. Timing depends on candidate availability and organizational needs. Fixed hours will occasionally include evenings, weekends, and business hours.
COMPENSATION: $18 to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. A total of approximately $20,000 per year is estimated. No benefits at this time.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for effectively managing multiple aspects of Constellations Chamber Concerts to ensure a positive public experience and smooth operation of the organization. Administrative responsibilities such as volunteer management, marketing, development, production, community outreach, and public relations are part of this position. Most duties must be performed independently and others under supervision. This position is a member of the Constellations’ management team.

REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM:
• Accredited bachelor’s degree
• Strong skills in using Windows- or Mac-based computers, Microsoft Office, the internet, database maintenance and searching, and downloadable resources
• Proven interpersonal and public relations skills to work effectively with patrons and the community in a team environment
• Strong communication skills • Experience writing newsletters or other promotional materials
• Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 20 pounds
• Ability to review written materials and discern voice and audible tones
• Valid driver’s license
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
DESIRED:
• Supervisory and program management experience
• Understanding of and appreciation for chamber music
• Arts administration experience
• Knowledge and experience in grant writing and foundation funding
• Experience in web page management
• Experience working with community organizations and public speaking
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, motivate, and inspire volunteers
• Video editing experience using Final Cut Pro or similar applications
• Audio editing experience using Audacity or similar applications

Communications and Marketing
• Brochure & program design
• Website and social media updating
• Newsletter drafting
• Donor, patron, and volunteer outreach
Concert and Program Production
• Announcements, ticketing, patron services
• Artist pickup, care & feeding
• Musical instrument rental, tuning and transport
• Post-concert video clip editing
• Venue searching
• Reception planning, set-up and clean-up
Organizational Support
• Grant research and applications
• Support for artistic director and board
Volunteer Management
• Recruit new volunteers
• Coordinate volunteer assignments
• Evaluate volunteers
