The City of Virginia Beach seeks an experienced project manager with a demonstrated passion for the arts to manage all aspects of the public art process as the Public Art & Placemaking Coordinator. The public art process includes, but is not limited to, facilitation of artist selection, contract coordination and oversight, public presentations, community engagement, monitoring construction compliance, proposing and managing budgets, and maintenance planning. The starting salary for this position is $55,063.50 with a pay range of $55,063.50 - $85,348.43

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in the planning, development and implementation of public art projects from inception to completion, in adherence with all state and local procurement policies.
  • Assists in issuing Request for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/RFP) for upcoming projects, manages selection committee activities, issues artist contracts, coordinates and conducts public outreach efforts, and manages communication between the artist and stakeholders throughout process from design to installation

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively, with high attention to detail while maintaining a proactive, collaborative and enthusiastic work style.
  • Experience managing large-scale public art projects in excess of $50,000, including aspects of procurement, design development and construction management.
  • Understanding of federal, state and local laws and ordinance, with familiarity in writing artist RFQs/RFPs.
